Competition Commission of India (CCI) has turned down the plea of Muralya Dairy Products Ltd seeking a ruling against Kerala’s cooperative dairy major Milma for barring its authorized sales agencies from supplying products of other dairy brands.

In its order on March 31, CCI, a statutory body with the judicial mandate to promote a robust competitive environment, held that there is no prima facie case against Milma as sought by Muralya Dairy Products Ltd under the relevant sections of the Competition Act.

The CCI further held that there is no case for grant of relief as sought by Muralya Dairy Products Ltd under Section 33 of the Competition Act, and directed the matter to be closed. Milma, the brand owned by Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF), has been engaged for over three decades in procuring milk from dairy farmers through its cooperative network and marketing it in the state.

Milma passes on to farmers almost 83 percent of its turnover as the price of milk procured from them and other incentives.
