Mani Ratnam tests positive for Covid-19

Director Mani Ratnam was admitted to the hospital after testing positive for Covid-19. The hospital where the filmmaker is being treated has yet to issue a statement about his medical condition.

Mani Ratnam recently made a public appearance when he attended the funeral of filmmaker-actor Pratap Pothen, who died last week at the age of 70. He also presided over the teaser launch event for his upcoming film Ponniyin Selvan: 1 in Chennai earlier this month. The event was attended by the entire cast and crew of the film.

Ponniyin Selvan is based on the same-named five-volume novel, which tells the story of Arulmozhi Varman, who later became Rajaraja Chola I. Mani Ratnam has divided the epic novel into two parts. He was working on Ponniyin Selvan’s post-production work when he tested positive for the virus: 1. The film, billed as his most ambitious to date, will be released in theatres on September 20.
