Hyderabad: With a 4% increase, Telangana tops all the states in the country in the growth of innovations. As innovations in electronics, electrical, physics, biotechnology, civil and metallurgy fields are being touted as the next big area of innovations in India, experts say that Telangana stands to gain more.

Ecowrap latest report named ‘3I (India, Incubating, Innovations)’ said though Gujarat is maintaining its share across last decade in innovations, Telangana, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana are emerging as leaders in intellectual property innovation space.As per the report, Telangana recorded only a 0.1% share in innovations between 2004-13, which soared by 4% in 2014-23. The second best growth was recorded by Rajasthan from 1.2 % to 2.3% in the two-decade span.“Between 2004-13, among inventions by single inventors, only 22.9% belonged to India. The share of inventions of Indians, however, shot up to 35.5% between 2014-23,” said L Maruthi Shankar, an expert on emerging technologies and MD of Seven Seas Entertainment. Although Telangana has previously topped innovation indices, the recent data shows Telangana has left its imprint in innovation share.Uttarakhand’s share in innovation in 2004-13 was 0.7%, which touched 2.3% in the next decade. According to the report, Odisha, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry and Himachal Pradesh are also increasingly contributing to innovation growth in India.

Officials said Telangana government is planning to take innovation in various spheres to the doorsteps of rural areas. “There is also a proposal to come up with a new small and micro entrepreneurs’ policy only for rural areas to encourage rural people to come up with innovations,” Jayesh Ranjan, principalsecretary of IT, industry department, said.
