Bhagwani Devi Dagar wins Gold & 2 Bronze Medals at 2022 World Masters Athletics

The 94-year-old Bhagwani Devi Dagar demonstrated that age is no barrier when she won the gold medal in the 100-meter sprint at the Tampere World Masters Athletics Championships, following in the footsteps of the illustrious Shooter Dadis Chandro Tomar and Prakashi Tomar.

Dagar recorded 24.74 seconds in the 100m dash and also took bronze in the shot put.

“94-year-old #BhagwaniDevi Ji from India has once again shown that age is no obstacle!” With a timing of 24.74 seconds, she won the GOLD medal in the 100-meter sprint at the Tampere #WorldMastersAthleticsChampionships. In the shot put, she also took home a BRONZE. “A very great effort,” the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ Department of Sports tweeted.

The World Masters Athletics Championships are an athletics (track and field) competition for competitors aged 35 and over.

Bhagwani Devi’s accomplishments were celebrated throughout the country and on the internet.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri praised her on Twitter, writing, “Inspirational! 94-year-old Bhagwani Devi Ji won two bronze medals in addition to the gold medal in the 100-meter sprint at the 2022 World Masters Athletics Championships in Finland.”
