India’s Largest Iron Ore Producer Crosses Historic 50 MT Milestone
NMDC Limited, India’s largest iron ore producer, has created history by achieving its highest-ever production of 53 million tonnes (MT) in FY26. With this, NMDC becomes the first company in India’s mining history to cross the 50 MT annual production mark
This milestone highlights the growing strength of India’s mineral sector. Moreover, it reinforces NMDC’s key role in supporting the country’s steel industry.
Strong Monthly and Annual Growth
In March 2026 alone, NMDC produced 5.35 MT and recorded sales of 5.90 MT, showing impressive growth of 51% in production and 40% in sales compared to last year.
For the full financial year FY26:
- Total production reached 53.15 MT (21% growth)
- Total sales stood at 50.23 MT (13% growth)
This marks the best performance in NMDC’s history.
Key Mines Drive Record Output
The record production was driven by NMDC’s major mines:
- Kirandul and Bacheli (Chhattisgarh)
- Donimalai (Karnataka)
All these mines delivered their highest-ever output, contributing to the company’s strong performance.
FY26 has also been a year of expansion for NMDC. The company:
- Opened an international office in Dubai
- Started its first coal mine in Jharkhand
- Commissioned Deposit 4 at Bailadila
These steps have strengthened NMDC’s production capacity and diversification strategy.
Vision for 100+ MT by 2030
CMD Amitava Mukherjee said crossing 50 MT is a proud moment for both NMDC and India. He added that the company is now focused on achieving 100+ MT production capacity by 2030.
As India moves towards a $5 trillion economy, demand for steel and iron ore is expected to rise. Therefore, NMDC is increasing its capacity to meet future needs.
NMDC’s record production marks a major milestone in India’s mining sector. With strong expansion plans and rising demand, the company is set to play a crucial role in building a Viksit Bharat 2047.
