LPG price hike in India 2026

LPG prices in India have seen mixed trends this month. While domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged, commercial LPG rates have increased sharply due to rising global oil prices and supply disruptions.

A standard 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder continues to cost around ₹913 in Delhi. Prices in cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Bengaluru remain in a similar range. The government is maintaining subsidies, especially for Ujjwala beneficiaries, to protect households from global price fluctuations.

Commercial LPG Prices See Sharp Increase

However, commercial LPG prices have increased significantly from April 1, 2026.
A 19 kg cylinder in Delhi now costs ₹2,078.50, marking an increase of nearly ₹195. Other major cities like Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai have also seen similar hikes.

This rise directly affects restaurants, hotels, caterers, and small businesses. As a result, food prices and service costs are expected to increase.

Supply Disruptions Due to Global Conflict

The ongoing US-Iran conflict has disrupted LPG supply routes, especially through the Strait of Hormuz. Nearly 90% of India’s LPG imports pass through this route. Due to tensions, imports dropped significantly in March.

As a result, several cities are facing LPG shortages, delayed deliveries, and long queues. Reports of panic buying and black-market trading have also emerged.

To manage the situation, the government has asked domestic refiners to increase LPG production by around 25%. Priority is being given to household supply. Some commercial users are also shifting to alternative fuels like kerosene and biomass.

India is also exploring imports from countries like the United States and Argentina to stabilize supply.
