ISRO to launch AzadiSat built by 750 girl students from govt schools

On August 15, India will celebrate 75 years of independence, and to commemorate this historic occasion, the India Space Research Organization (ISRO) plans to launch 75 payloads designed and built by 750 female students from across the country.

The “AzaadiSat,” a satellite made up of 75 payloads built by 750 government schoolgirls from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, will ride on the Small Satellite Launch Vehicles (SSLV), which is set to take its maiden flight mission on August 7, 2022.

The project is significant because it was conceived as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

AzadiSAT – Women in Space Promotion:

I am proud of the work I have put into this idea over the past year and a half. Support., school principals, teachers and mentors, this dream is on the verge of becoming a reality..said the founder of Space Kidz India, an organization contributing to the scripting history of 750 public school girls by building AzadiSAT.

This satellite mission has a purpose! The goal is to provide government school children (from economically disadvantaged backgrounds) with a basic understanding and knowledge of space, and to tutor them in the construction of a small experiment and its launch into space via a “Balloon Satellite” or an “Orbital Satellite.”

According to the official website of Space Kidz India, they have chosen 10 female students from 75 government schools across India to receive this opportunity. The students chosen are primarily from grades 8th through 12th. As this year’s UN theme is “Women in Space,” this is the first-of-its-kind space mission with an “all-women concept” to promote women in STEM.
