Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is India’s Fifth Best University: NIRF 2022

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amrita University), a leading multi-campus, multi-disciplinary teaching and research institution in India, has been ranked as the fifth best university in the nation for 2022 by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), a methodology used by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, for the national-level annual ranking of higher education institutions. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Education Minister, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, recently released the list.

With the seventh edition of the annual ranking, Amrita becomes one of the few higher education institutions in the country to have appeared in the top ten universities list six years in a row, beginning in 2017. It is also the list’s youngest institution, having been founded in 2003. Amrita (ranked 16th) is one of only three private universities to make the Top 20 list of universities in the ‘Overall’ category. Amrita is one of only two private engineering institutions to make the top 20 list, ranking 19th in the Engineering Education Category. According to NIRF 2022, Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi is ranked eighth among the top ten medical schools in the country. Amrita School of Pharmacy, Kochi is also ranked 14th in the Pharmacy Education Category, and Amrita School of Dentistry, Kochi is ranked 19th in the Dental Education Category.

The university’s vice chancellor, Dr. P Venkat Rangan, commented on the school’s consistent performance in the NIRF Rankings, saying, “Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and its medical college once again finding a place in the top 10 in the NIRF Rankings 2022 is ample testimony to the vision of the internationally renowned humanitarian leader and Chancellor, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi, in setting the dual goals of education for life and compassion-driven I want to convey my deep gratitude to the Government of India for granting this honour since it would not have been possible without the exhausting efforts made by the students and staff. I am pleased and humbled by the university’s consistent recognition of academic excellence, outstanding faculty, and world-class infrastructure.”

NIRF assesses institutions based on five broad generic categories: teaching, learning, and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception. In total, 7234 higher education institutions took part in NIRF 2022, and they were classified into eleven categories: overall, university, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, dental, law, and architecture. NIRF ranks universes based on a variety of criteria, including teaching-learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham recently received the highest possible A++ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution that assesses and accredits higher education institutions. In previous NAAC assessments in 2009 and 2014, the university received Grade A ratings.
