Freedom Sunflower Oil, one of India’s leading edible oil brands, has launched a nationwide consumer awareness campaign featuring former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid. The campaign encourages customers to adopt a simple habit called the Pack Review System (PRS) while buying edible oil.
Through this initiative, consumers are urged to check whether a 1-litre edible oil pouch contains 910 grams of oil, as specified by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India.
Why the Pack Review System Matters
According to the campaign, some edible oil pouches in the market appear like 1-litre packs but contain less than the mandated quantity of oil. This can mislead consumers who rely only on pack size instead of checking the net weight mentioned on the label.
To demonstrate this issue, GEF India, the makers of Freedom Sunflower Oil, partnered with Rahul Dravid to conduct a live comparison. Several edible oil pouches from different brands were placed on a weighing scale. The exercise revealed that while some packs contained less than 910 grams of oil, Freedom Sunflower Oil consistently met or exceeded the required quantity.
This demonstration highlighted the need for consumers to verify product weight before purchase.
Rahul Dravid’s Message to Consumers
Speaking about the initiative, Rahul Dravid said the Pack Review System empowers consumers and protects them from unfair practices.
“I congratulate GEF India for introducing the Pack Review System and encouraging consumers to become the third umpire. As rightly said, oil should be less in food and not in the pack. An aware consumer can ensure fairness by adopting PRS,” he said.

The campaign also promotes easy steps that can make a big difference. These include:
