SkyWalker Robotic Knee Replacement Introduced at Arete Hospitals

Arete Hospitals, Hyderabad, has set a new benchmark in advanced orthopedic care by launching the SkyWalker™ Orthopedic Robotic System for knee replacement surgery. With this milestone, Arete Hospitals becomes the first hospital in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to introduce this cutting-edge robotic technology in collaboration with U.S.-based MicroPort Orthopedics Inc.

The landmark launch event was held at The Leela, Hyderabad, and was graced by Telugu cinema icon Nagarjuna Akkineni, highlighting the growing convergence of technology, healthcare, and innovation in the region.

Precision-Driven Knee Replacement Technology

The SkyWalker™ robotic system is designed to deliver sub-millimeter accuracy in knee joint alignment. It works seamlessly with the NitrX® Evolution implant, enabling surgeons to perform highly personalized knee replacement procedures. As a result, patients benefit from improved joint stability, faster recovery, and long-term functional outcomes.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Pavan Kumar Reddy, Medical Director and Head of Critical Care at Arete Hospitals, said the introduction of robotic-assisted surgery reflects the hospital’s commitment to clinical excellence. He added that advanced technology adoption remains central to Arete Hospitals’ vision of delivering superior patient outcomes.

Improved Outcomes and Faster Recovery

According to Dr. Prabhat Reddy Lakkireddi, Director of Orthopaedics, Arthroscopy, Sports Injuries, and Robotic Joint Replacement at Arete Hospitals, the SkyWalker™ system provides real-time data during surgery. This helps surgeons achieve accurate ligament balancing and joint reconstruction.

He noted that early cases have shown smoother recoveries, better mobility, and excellent functional results. Patients experience reduced pain and regain movement faster compared to conventional knee replacement methods.

Real-Life Patient Success

One such patient, Mrs. Naidu, a 65-year-old retired teacher, underwent robotic knee replacement using the SkyWalker™ system. Within just two weeks after surgery, she was able to walk pain-free and climb stairs comfortably. Initially hesitant due to fear of pain and long recovery time, she described her post-surgery experience as smooth and reassuring.

Dr. Mukesh Farmar, Senior Director and General Manager (South Asia) at MicroPort Orthopedics, emphasized that choosing the right implant is crucial, as it stays with the patient for life. He stated that the NitrX® Evolution implant, combined with the SkyWalker™ robotic platform, offers surgeons unmatched precision and delivers consistently positive patient outcomes.

With the launch of the SkyWalker™ Orthopedic Robotic System, Arete Hospitals strengthens its position as a centre of excellence in advanced orthopedic and robotic surgery, bringing world-class knee replacement solutions to patients in the twin states.
