Samsung has officially started laptop production in India, marking a significant milestone in the country’s technology and manufacturing journey. With this move, Samsung strengthens its “Made in India” portfolio and supports the government’s vision for electronics self-reliance and domestic production growth.
Expanding the “Made in India” Portfolio
Samsung’s Greater Noida factory, established in 1996, has been a cornerstone of India’s electronics ecosystem. The facility already manufactures feature phones, smartphones, wearables, and tablets. Now, with the addition of laptops, Samsung broadens its local product range, making Samsung laptops officially “Made in India.”
Samsung Galaxy Book Series Now Made in India
The laptops being produced are reportedly from the Samsung Galaxy Book series. Between four and five models are now manufactured domestically, meeting Indian demand directly through local output. This boosts product availability, shortens supply chains, and reduces import dependency—key advantages for Indian consumers.
Strengthening India’s Electronics Manufacturing
This initiative highlights India’s growing role in the global electronics supply chain. Samsung, already one of India’s top technology exporters (second only to Apple in terms of smartphone exports), is reinforcing its commitment to India as a global manufacturing hub. The move also underlines confidence in India’s skilled workforce and rising stature as a tech innovation hub.
Support from Government Initiatives
The announcement followed a meeting between India’s Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and senior Samsung officials. The government emphasized that this initiative demonstrates India’s capabilities in high-tech manufacturing and aligns with the country’s ambition to become a global leader in electronics production.
Future Outlook for Samsung in India
Producing laptops in India is part of Samsung’s larger strategy to diversify and expand its advanced technology manufacturing portfolio. With India’s massive consumer market and growing export capacity, Samsung is expected to further scale up its production of premium devices and strengthen its role in India’s digital economy.
