This initiative, led by Gemini Edible & Fats India Limited (makers of Freedom Healthy Cooking Oils) in association with HMDA, Telangana Social Impact Group, and Dhruvansh NGO, is more than just tree planting—it’s about reviving an ecosystem.
Van Mahotsavam at Kotha Cheruvu: Restoring Nature’s Balance
The event saw the planting of medicinal trees around the scenic Kotha Cheruvu lake in Kokapet, with dignitaries like Hon’ble MLA T. Prakash Goud leading the way. Beyond adding greenery, the project focuses on restoring biodiversity, improving water quality, and creating a sustainable space for future generations.
Phase I Achievements
Over the last six months, the restoration drive has transformed the lake’s surroundings. Solar floating aerators, floating treatment wetlands, weed removal, bund repairs, and garbage clearance have rejuvenated the lake. Visitor-friendly additions like a gate, seating area, toilets, storage facilities, and security systems ensure the area remains protected and welcoming.
Community and Corporate Partnership
GEF India’s CSR philosophy is rooted in sustainability. Their support reflects their commitment to environmental stewardship, echoing previous green projects like Freedom Park. Leaders from local governance and the Telangana Social Impact Group emphasized that preserving the lake’s beauty will depend on active community involvement.
