In a significant step towards eradicating cervical cancer, Grace Cancer Foundation and Infosys Foundation have officially entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to conduct an HPV Vaccine Drive. The agreement, witnessed by Smt. A. Kanthi Wesley, IAS, Director, Women Development & Child Welfare, Government of Telangana, aims to provide 500 free HPV vaccines to underprivileged girls across the city.
Driving Telangana Towards a Cancer-Free Future
Speaking at the event held at Hotel Daspalla, Jubilee Hills, Smt. A. Kanthi Wesley emphasized the urgent need for proactive health measures. She expressed her vision for Telangana to become a cancer-free state and lauded the initiative as a crucial step in cancer prevention.
MoU Exchanged on International Childhood Cancer Day
The MoU was formally exchanged between Dr. Chinnababu Sunkavalli, Senior Consultant Robotic Surgical Oncologist and Founder of Grace Cancer Foundation, and Mr. Vamshi Muthyapu, Project Manager of Infosys Ltd, representing Infosys Foundation. The signing took place on International Childhood Cancer Day, symbolizing a strong commitment to cancer prevention among the younger generation.
HPV Vaccination Drive – Key Highlights
- Target Beneficiaries: 500 underprivileged girls, primarily from Pocharam and Gachibowli, where Infosys campuses are located.
- Total Doses: 1000 (each beneficiary to receive two doses over six months).
- Execution Plan: 250 doses to be administered before the end of March, with the remaining doses distributed later.
Government Orphanage Girls to Benefit
During the event, Smt. Kanthi Wesley urged Infosys Foundation to extend its support to 100 orphaned girls under the Department of Women Development & Child Welfare. Mr. Vamshi Muthyapu promptly agreed, confirming that these girls will receive the vaccine on World Women’s Day, March 8, 2025.
Cervical Cancer Prevention: A Collective Responsibility
Dr. Chinnababu Sunkavalli emphasized the preventability of cervical cancer through HPV vaccination. “Cervical cancer is 100% preventable with the HPV vaccine. Just as polio was eradicated, we must eliminate cervical cancer from the world,” he stated.
Infosys Foundation’s Commitment
Mr. Vamshi Muthyapu reaffirmed Infosys Foundation’s dedication to public health, calling on other organizations to join the cause. “If more partners come forward, this initiative can grow from 500 to 5000 doses,” he encouraged.
Identifying Beneficiaries and Outreach
The Grace Cancer Foundation will oversee the selection of beneficiaries, focusing on girls aged 9 to 14 from underprivileged backgrounds. The foundation will target:
- Government schools
- Economically weaker sections
- Localities surrounding Infosys campuses
