Twitter launches Tamil topics
Twitter has announced the availability of Tamil topics for all Android, iOS, and web users who have designated Tamil as their preferred language. The launch is part of Twitter’s commitment to build for India and serve the country’s diverse and multilingual audiences, according to the company. It will assist people who speak Tamil as a first language in finding the most relevant and interesting conversations in the language, including literature, music, poetry, and much more.
Tamil is the third most popular language on the service in India, and Tamil topics will allow users to choose and personalise the content they want to see on their home timeline, whether it’s more tweets about artists like Vijay, Rajinikanth, and A.R. Rahman, or sports teams like CSK.
“Twitter has increased the scope and scale of real-time communication and connection through features like Spaces. In fact, Tamil audiences were early adopters of Spaces, and to honour their enthusiasm, we created a #TamilSpaces emoji “Twitter India’s Head of Partners, Cheryl-Ann Couto, issued a statement.
“We bring relevant and exclusive content to people and try to help them connect directly to the things that matter to them and each other through #OnlyOnTwitter topics and activations in Tamil, like the recent #FanTweets video with music maestro Ilaiyaraaja and a ‘Voice Tweet by Rajnikanth’ celebrating #15YearsOfSivaji. We are excited to support and nurture the wonderful community surrounding all things Tamil Twitter as it grows,” she explained.
The first time topics were added to Twitter was in 2019, and the platform debuted in Hindi the following year. Around 280 million users currently follow at least one of the over 15,000 topics that are available in 13 languages.
To find tweets on a specific topic on Twitter, utilize machine learning. A user who follows a topic on Twitter will see tweets from numerous accounts that are experts, fans, or just have a lot to say about it.
