Telangana Olympic Mission 2036 event at Sports Tech Podium
Jayesh Ranjan speaking at Sports Tech Podium 202

Telangana has set a major goal for the future. The State aims to ensure representation in every sport India competes in at the 2036 Olympic Games, said Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, Government of Telangana. He shared this vision at Sports Tech Podium 2025, a first-of-its-kind platform for India’s sports technology ecosystem, held at T-Hub.

A Clear Olympic Mission for 2036

Jayesh Ranjan explained that the objective was built into Telangana’s Sports Policy from the very beginning. The mission is simple:
produce athletes across all sporting disciplines and build capability from the grassroots level.

The conference brought together startups, investors, tech leaders, corporates, athletes, federations and policymakers. It highlighted Hyderabad’s rise as India’s Sports Tech and Innovation Capital.

Major Announcement at Telangana Rising Global Summit

Jayesh revealed that during the Telangana Rising Global Summit on December 8–9, a major MoU between Dubai Sports City and GMR Sports is expected. This MoU will support the development of a large-scale Sports City project in Telangana, boosting infrastructure and global partnerships.

Sports Tech: A Market Growing Faster Than the World Average

Experts shared that the Sports Tech market in India may jump from USD 1 billion to USD 40 billion by 2030. With a 16% growth rate, it is expanding much faster than the global average of 10%. This rapid growth is creating strong opportunities for startups, investors and established companies.

Launch of Sprintx: India’s New Sports Accelerator

Jayesh Ranjan also unveiled the logo for Sprintx, a new Sports Accelerator by 360D Sports (INVE Sports Venture LLP).
Sprintx will support startups in sports, wellness and fitness with:

  • Venture support
  • Investment pathways
  • Scale-up strategies

It is backed by partners such as the Sports Authority of Telangana, Woxsen University, Hyderabad Angels, and HNDRD.

Building a Strong Sports Ecosystem in Telangana

Jayesh stressed that Telangana is preparing long-term reforms to boost sports talent. He also shared that the State plans to encourage private sector involvement, reduce direct government operations, and even set up a Sports University.

He added that Hyderabad’s strengths in life sciences, aerospace, defence, and information technology make it a natural base for global sports investments.

India’s Sports Tech Evolution

Aditya Reddy, Co-Founder & CEO of Game Point, said the first wave of sports tech in India focused on grassroots adoption through booking apps, coaching access, and organised tournaments.
Today, deeper tech like performance analytics and digital broadcasting is transforming the sector.

Panelist Ratnakar Samavedam, CEO of Hyderabad Angels, explained that India’s sports market remains underserved. Only 10% of the population plays sports casually, and just 0.01% enters serious competition. As India strengthens policies and hosts major events, participation is expected to rise sharply.

He added that even if only 10% of passive players become active, India would unlock a massive sports business opportunity—far bigger than markets that produced current Indian unicorns.
