Acclaimed actress, author, and cancer survivor Lisa Ray delivered a moving and transformative talk at an event hosted by FICCI FLO Hyderabad. Held at Radisson Blu, Banjara Hills, the session titled “The Many Lives of Lisa Ray” drew over 150 women eager to hear her journey of healing, self-discovery, and personal empowerment.
Lisa Ray, who has lived in 43 cities across the globe, shared how her greatest professional success coincided with her most difficult personal struggles. Diagnosed with a rare and incurable blood cancer at age 37, Lisa chose to face it publicly and courageously. “My moment of peak success was also my darkest hour,” she said. “The doctor believed I wouldn’t survive beyond five years. But today, I’m 53 and the most content woman I know.”
A Conversation Beyond Celebrity

In a raw and heartfelt address, Lisa spoke of her experiences as a model, actress, patient, mother, and writer. She emphasized that external success doesn’t heal emotional trauma. “Success doesn’t solve your problems,” she said. “I had to redefine what success meant for me—beyond the glitz and public perception.”
She also inspired the audience to take control of their well-being: “Each of us is the CEO of our health. Prioritize wellness. Take responsibility.” Her powerful words about mental health, healing, and meditation struck a deep chord. “We clean everything around us. But what about the toxic thoughts in our minds? We need to cleanse those too.”
Breaking Taboos and Owning the Story
Lisa Ray was the first Indian celebrity to speak openly about her cancer diagnosis, challenging the stigma around illness. “There is nothing shameful about disease. Accepting my life, my body, and my illness has been the most liberating part of my journey.”
She closed with a sentiment that echoed with every listener: “India may not be perfect, but it’s the best place to live. And Hyderabad is close to my heart—its warmth, people, and food keep calling me back.”
FLO Hyderabad: A Platform for Empowerment
The session was hosted by FLO Hyderabad Chairperson Prathibha Kunda, who noted, “What Lisa gave us today wasn’t just a speech—it was a mirror. Her honesty reminded us to embrace imperfection and own our stories.”
This event is part of FLO’s ongoing mission to support and uplift women through storytelling, entrepreneurship, wellness, and leadership development.
