What is BharOS, the Desi Android

BharOS will be the desi alternative to the Google-Apple duopoly in the mobile ecosystem in the country. According to reports Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw have confirmed the testing of BharOS which was developed by an incubated start-up of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras.

It is based on the Android Open Source Project similar to that of Google’s iOS. The major difference is that the BharOS doesn’t come with any Google Services or app.

While one cannot forecast the success and the acceptance of this operating system, India’s neighbour China has already developed one and implemented its own indigenous operating system successfully.
