FootDoctor Hospital organised a walkathon in Hyderabad to raise awareness about the growing risk of foot complications among people living with diabetes. The event was inaugurated by Former Vice President Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, along with Tollywood actor Sushant, KIMS CMD Dr. Bollineni Bhaskar Rao, and Delhi Public School Chairman Ramesh Gorantla.
Doctors warn that 15–25% of diabetics develop foot ulcers, and many of them may eventually face amputation if these wounds go untreated.
India Leads the World in Diabetes Cases
Speaking at the event, Shri Venkaiah Naidu said that India now carries one of the world’s highest burdens of diabetes.
“Diabetes begins silently. Many people don’t realise they have it until complications appear. Diabetics must pay special attention to their eyes, feet, and other organs,” he said.
He added that untreated foot ulcers often lead to amputations and stressed the importance of lifestyle changes such as walking and yoga.
He also highlighted how excessive smartphone dependency has reduced physical activity among younger generations.
Younger Age Groups Increasingly at Risk
Ramesh Gorantla, Chairman of Delhi Public School, noted that diabetes is rising among younger individuals.
“Minor injuries take longer to heal in diabetics. If neglected, they can lead to amputation. Children also need early screening for foot conditions like flat feet to prevent long-term complications,” he said.
New Digital Foot-Care Services Launched
FootDoctor Hospital also launched the Dr Wound App, which helps patients receive safe, remote wound care guidance from specialists.
The hospital additionally unveiled a custom footwear creation system, which analyses each person’s unique foot shape. This enables doctors to provide 100% customised protective footwear, helping prevent injuries and improve mobility.
