The United States and Japan announced new sanctions against Russia on Friday. According to the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. has imposed sanctions on over 200 Russian companies and individuals, as well as more than 180 ships. Additionally, two Indian companies, Skyhart Management Services and Avizion Management Services, have been banned for transporting LNG from Russia, violating U.S. sanctions.
Japan has also frozen the assets of several Russian individuals and companies and imposed sanctions on organizations that helped Russia evade previous sanctions.
Due to these U.S. sanctions, crude oil prices rose by up to 3%. with international market prices surpassing $80 per barrel. This could lead to difficulties for India and China in importing oil from Russia.
U.S. Secretary of state Antony Blinken stated that these sanctions would reduce Russia’s energy income, making it harder for Russia to continue its war against Ukraine.
Japan has also imposed sanctions on a break from North Korea and one from Georgia for assisting Russia. The Japanese government stated that these sanctions demonstrate their commitment to supporting Ukraine.
