Telangana Electricity Bills Cannot Be Paid Directly on UPI Apps

In a recent announcement, the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) clarified that Telangana Electricity Bills cannot be paid directly through Unified Payments Interface (UPI) applications.

Instead, consumers must use the official online payment portals of the Telangana electricity distribution companies (Discoms) for their transactions.

The clarification comes amid growing confusion and complaints from consumers who attempted to pay their electricity bills using popular UPI apps such as Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm, only to face unsuccessful transactions and payment failures.

Poultary

TSSPDCL emphasized that while UPI is a convenient and widely-used payment method, its integration with the Discoms’ billing systems is not yet fully functional.

TSSPDCL’s Statement

In an official statement, TSSPDCL highlighted the necessity of using the authorized online portals for bill payments to ensure seamless and secure transactions.

“We understand the inconvenience faced by our consumers due to the inability to pay their electricity bills directly through UPI apps.

To avoid any disruption in services and to ensure proper credit of payments, we urge consumers to use our official websites,” the statement read.

The authorized portals for online bill payments are:

TSSPDCL: www.tssouthernpower.com
TSNPDCL: www.tsnpdcl.in
These websites provide multiple payment options, including net banking, credit/debit cards, and UPI, but the transactions must be initiated through these official portals.

Reasons for the Restriction

The primary reason for restricting direct UPI payments is to ensure accurate tracking and crediting of payments to consumers’ accounts.

The current infrastructure of UPI apps lacks the necessary integration with the Discoms’ backend systems, leading to potential delays and errors in updating payment statuses.

Direct payments through UPI apps, without proper integration, could expose users to potential risks and fraud.

Consumer Reactions and Feedback

While some consumers have expressed frustration over the inconvenience, many understand the rationale behind the directive.

Others have suggested that TSSPDCL and TSNPDCL expedite the integration of UPI payments to enhance convenience.

The authorities should work on integrating it soon,” said Sneha Reddy, another Hyderabad resident.

Looking Ahead

TSSPDCL assured consumers that efforts are underway to improve the payment infrastructure and explore options for integrating direct UPI payments in the future.

Until then, the emphasis remains on using the official Discom websites to avoid any disruption in electricity services.

For further updates and assistance, consumers can visit the TSSPDCL and TSNPDCL websites or contact their respective customer service centers.
