Switcheko has unveiled “Sustainability on Wheels”, a groundbreaking mobile waste management vehicle designed in Telangana for a global audience. This first-of-its-kind innovation brings waste processing directly to the source, transforming how communities handle waste and resources. After more than 6,760 hours of R&D and collaboration with 16 start-ups, the project is ready to scale across India.
A Comprehensive Approach to Waste
The Sustainability on Wheels vehicle is a self-sufficient ecosystem built to process multiple waste types, including:
- Plastic
- Cardboard & paper
- E-waste
- Sanitary waste
- Styrofoam
- Textiles
- Food waste
It serves as a mobile hub for recycling and resource recovery, showcasing how discarded materials can be converted into compost, recycled raw materials, or energy.
Key Features and Technology
Equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, the vehicle enables waste processing on-site. Highlights include:
- Conveyor Belt: 250 kg load capacity for efficient sorting.
- Hydraulic Baling Machine: Compresses waste into dense, easy-to-transport bales.
- Composting Unit: World’s first system for PLA-based plastics + food waste, reducing composting time from 240–360 days to just 30–35 days.
- Shredding Machine: Handles plastics, textiles, and paper.
- Sanitary Waste Incinerator: Converts non-recyclable sanitary waste into by-products through high-temperature incineration.
- Styrofoam Lump-Making Machine: Transforms thermocol into transportable lumps.
The vehicle is powered by a 15 KVA generator, with solar panels and battery backup, enabling 6–7 days of independent operation on a single fuel tank during an 8-hour shift.
Switcheko Awareness and Community Empowerment
More than a machine, the initiative is about education and empowerment. The vehicle is equipped with:
- PA system for village and community awareness programs
- IoT-enabled cameras for 360° monitoring
- Safety gear, including gloves, goggles, and fire extinguishers
Its core philosophy: “Awareness + Action = Sustainability.”
Versatile Applications
The mobile system can be deployed across diverse settings, including:
- Municipal corporations for rural & urban waste collection
- Corporate factories for in-house waste management
- Large events to manage food waste, plastic bottles, and cigarette butts on-site
By reducing landfill burden and maximizing resource recovery, Sustainability on Wheels offers a scalable, eco-friendly path for India’s waste challenges.
