Solar-Roof Cycle Track:
A solar roof cycle track is being developed as a pilot project at Kokapet. The track is part of a 21-kilometer solar cycling track proposed by the Telangana government on the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
The track is being developed as a pilot project, and once it has received state approval, a similar model will be used for the entire 21-km stretch, according to a representative of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
Tenders have recently been issued for the construction of a cycle track, the installation of solar panels, and other work along the ORR service road. The track will be 13 kilometres long from Narsingi to Kollur and 8 kilometres long from Nanakramguda to the Telangana State Police Academy (TSPA). It will be built between the ORR’s service road and the main carriageway.
Unlike existing cycle tracks in the city and those under construction in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) jurisdiction, this cycle track provides cyclists with protection from the sun, rain, and other harsh weather conditions, as well as isolating them from regular traffic and ensuring their safety.
The advantages available to cyclists do not stop there. The track would also have food courts, surveillance cameras, drinking water, and bicycle repair shops. Another feature that will set this facility apart will be its 24-hour illumination. The power required for the lighting will be generated by the solar-paneled roof, making the project self-sustaining.
“The cycle track’s solar roof has a 9MW capacity for power production. According to HMDA officials, the project will use a Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model. It will also be used to power streetlights along the ORR and drip irrigation systems.
As a result, a RESCO operator will invest a total initial capital expenditure for solar panels, maintain them for 25 years, and supply power to the department at a reduced rate.
