Hyderabad, 16th February 2024 – The Asian Institute of Urooncology and Robotics (AINU) in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, achieved a significant milestone with a groundbreaking robotic surgery performed on a 43-year-old individual from Nallagandla near Hyderabad. The patient had undergone a kidney transplant in 2007 due to bilateral kidney failure. His brother donated the kidney. He recently presented with a tumor in the transplanted kidney. This rare occurrence posed a unique challenge to the medical team led by Dr. C. Mallikarjuna and Dr. S.M. Ghouse.
Traditionally, surgical procedures for such cases involve clamping the arteries to halt blood supply to the kidney, followed by tumor removal and suturing. However, this approach carries risks of prolonged hospitalization and potential kidney failure due to restricted blood flow.
The AINU medical team opted for robotic surgery without clamping the arteries. Leveraging state-of-the-art robotic-assisted techniques, they meticulously removed the tumor with precision, ensuring minimal disruption to blood flow and reducing the patient’s recovery time. The patient’s creatinine level came to normal after the surgery.
Dr. C. Mallikarjuna, Chief Urologist and Managing Director, AINU, said, “This case presented a unique challenge, but our team’s expertise in robotic surgery allowed us to navigate it successfully. By avoiding arterial clamping, we mitigated potential risks and ensured a swift recovery for the patient.”
The successful outcome of this surgery not only highlights the advanced capabilities of AINU but also signifies a breakthrough in the field of urology and robotics. By demonstrating the effectiveness of robotic-assisted procedures in complex cases, AINU reaffirms its position as a leader in innovative surgical techniques.
“This achievement opens up new possibilities for treating urological conditions, underscoring the importance of embracing cutting-edge technology in healthcare,” added Dr. S.M. Ghouse, Consultant Urologist, AINU.
AINU remains committed to pushing the boundaries of surgical excellence and delivering optimal outcomes for patients, cementing its reputation as a premier destination for urological care and robotic surgery.
