Why does Rajiv Bajaj Blame EV 2- wheeler vehicles?
The current regulatory environment for electric vehicles, according to Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj Auto, is the cause of the increased number of fires in electric vehicles. Rajiv Bajaj blames the recent electric 2-wheeler fire problems on the regulatory framework. He said that, These guys have no R&D, engineering, purchasing, or anything more than a half-assembled facility; they’re importing stuff that hasn’t been market-tested and selling it. That may explain why fires, mistakes, and accidents occur.

He also mentioned that it was not the issue about fire but mainly about the people who was loosed their due to the electrical 2 wheeler vehicles. The face of Bajaj’s two-wheeler division claims that there are only two types of electric vehicles: those that have caught fire and those that are about to catch fire.
He noted that, similar to EVs, established vehicle manufacturers such as GM and Hyundai have experienced internal combustion engine fires, but that they have systems and processes in place to manage the issue. Meanwhile, around 30 two-wheeler electric vehicles have reportedly caught fire in India. Two-wheeler EV companies also lost a considerable number of sales in May, owing in part to the fire occurrences.
Following the fires, the government and Niti Aayog asked EV manufacturers to recall the batches of vehicles that were involved in the fires. Over 7,000 escooters were recalled by Okinawa Autotech, Ola Electric, Pure EV, Jitendra EV, and Boom Motors as a result of this.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs is also planning to create EV battery standards through the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The benchmark rules would initially apply to two-wheelers before being expanded to four-wheeler electric vehicles.
He also mentioned that government subsidies could be a factor in the flood of electric vehicles on the market.
