In a major initiative focused on inclusive development, NMDC Limited, India’s largest iron ore producer, has announced two fully sponsored education programs for Scheduled Tribe (ST) youth from Chhattisgarh under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) outreach.
The programs—Balika Shiksha Yojana for tribal girls and a new Medical Technology Program for boys and girls—aim to bridge access gaps in professional education for underprivileged communities from districts such as Bastar, Dantewada, Sukma, Kondagaon, Bijapur, and Narayanpur.
Balika Shiksha Yojana: Free Nursing Degrees for ST Girls
The Balika Shiksha Yojana, NMDC’s flagship initiative, offers 200 fully funded seats to eligible tribal girls for B.Sc. Nursing (4 years) and GNM (3 years) courses. The courses will be conducted at reputed nursing colleges in Hyderabad, including:
- Apollo School of Nursing
- Yashoda School of Nursing
- KIMS College of Nursing
Each student will receive full financial support covering tuition, hostel, and academic costs—amounting to ₹12–15 lakh per student. The program is open only to ST candidates from the selected districts, and applicants’ family income must not exceed ₹72,000 per annum.
Last date to apply: June 28, 2025
Medical Technology Program for ST Youth Launched with Apollo University

- Emergency Medical Technology
- Medical Lab Technology

CSR with Long-Term Vision
With its key operations in Chhattisgarh’s Bailadila and Kirandul mining belts, NMDC has long been a catalyst for regional development. These new education initiatives continue that legacy by creating long-term career pathways for tribal youth through access to professional degrees in healthcare, a high-demand sector across rural and urban India.
“This is not just education support—it’s a direct investment in the future of tribal youth. We are proud to help these communities rise through opportunity,” an NMDC official stated.
What This Means for Chhattisgarh
As healthcare needs in India continue to grow, these programs are likely to benefit both the students and their home communities, many of which face shortages of qualified health workers.
By supporting tribal students with free, high-quality education, NMDC’s initiative not only uplifts individuals but also contributes to rural healthcare access, gender inclusion, and skill development.
Summary:
- Total Seats: 290 (200 for nursing, 90 for allied health sciences)
- Eligibility: ST youth from select districts of Chhattisgarh
- Sponsorship: 100% free education, ₹12–15 lakh per student
- Application Deadline: June 28 (nursing), June 30 (medical tech)
