NMDC, India’s largest iron ore producer, celebrated its 68th Foundation Day on November 15 with pride and enthusiasm. The event highlighted the organisation’s six-decade journey of growth, innovation, and leadership in the mining sector.
A Journey From 1958 to Becoming India’s No.1 Iron Ore Producer
NMDC began operations in 1958 as a single-unit organisation. Over the years, it has grown into a globally recognised mining leader. The Foundation Day celebration honoured this long-standing commitment to national development and industrial progress.
NMDC Celebrates 68 Years Ceremony
The event was attended by:

CMD Excellence Awards: Honouring Outstanding Contributions
The Foundation Day also featured NMDC’s flagship CMD Excellence Awards, which recognised exceptional achievements across departments. Awards were presented in multiple categories, including:

- CMD Shield – Best Department (Production & Sales)
- CMD Shield – Best Department (Support)
- Best Project & Best Project (Works)
These awards, introduced in 2023, celebrate dedication, innovation, and excellence among NMDC’s workforce.
CMD Highlights the Vision for NMDC 2.0
Addressing employees, CMD Shri Amitava Mukherjee said,
“NMDC is a company with a history much older than ours and a future much longer than ours. We are bringing in state-of-the-art, digitally enabled equipment to strengthen our operations. The awardees have inspired us and reaffirmed our resolve. We may be sixty-plus, but we are still growing and learning.”
He added that NMDC is now laying the foundation for NMDC 2.0, a modern and future-ready version of the organisation.
