KTR Inaugurates HyCan 2025
HyCan 2025: Hyderabad’s Biggest Pet Show Inaugurated by KTR

HyCan 2025, Hyderabad’s biggest pet show, began on Saturday at Om Convention, Narsingi, bringing together over 500 dogs and 100 cats under one roof. The two-day event, organized by the Hyderabad Canine Club, will conclude on Sunday evening.

Minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) inaugurated the show and attended the event along with his pet Cherry, a Shih Tzu, a toy dog breed originating from Tibet.

KTR’s Love for Pets

Speaking to the media, KTR said,

Poultary

“I am a pet lover. I’ve had dogs since my childhood, and my son now has seven different breeds. Dogs are like family—they are like your own kids. My Cherry is my stress buster. No matter how busy I am, I always spend time with her.”

A Celebration of Companionship

The show features a wide range of activities including dog and cat showcases, an Aqua Zone with 80–100 varieties of fish, and multiple pet care exhibitions.

“This year’s HyCan celebrates the deep bond between humans and animals,” said Philip Butt, Honorary Secretary, Hyderabad Canine Club. “It’s not just about competitions—it’s about awareness, responsibility, and respect for our pets.”

For the first time, HyCan 2025 has partnered with the Government of Telangana and GHMC to launch ‘Safe With Dogs’, a public-awareness campaign promoting responsible pet ownership. The initiative encourages Hyderabad residents to understand pet behavior and reduce the fear of dogs.

GHMC will also engage pet-friendly cafés, shops, and establishments to participate in workshops on pet safety and care. After training, they will receive a “Safe With Dogs” certificate and sticker, recognizing them as part of a pet-friendly city network.

The campaign will run four times daily during the event and will be inaugurated by Hyderabad Collector Ms. Harichandana.

Honoring India’s K9 Heroes

Another key highlight was the National Canine Bravery Awards, jointly organized by the RRU Commando K9 Academy and the Hyderabad Canine Club. The awards honored dogs serving in Central and State Police K9 units, recognizing their bravery and contribution to national security.

Senior police officials and dignitaries attended the ceremony, where top K9 units were felicitated for their exceptional service.
