JD Lakshminarayana, retired police officer turned politician, inaugurated Organic Creamery—the first company-owned outlet of Iceberg, India’s first organic ice cream brand. The premium store, located in Kondapur, Hyderabad, opened during Dussehra, marking a significant milestone in organic food innovation.
During the event, Lakshminarayana praised Iceberg’s health-conscious approach to ice cream, calling it “green ice cream.” He highlighted the use of pure A2 milk, organic butter, dhaga mishri (thread sugar), and other organic ingredients like fruits, gondh (edible gum), and organic stevia. He emphasized that these ingredients make Iceberg’s products not just flavorful but also healthy. The gondh, used as a natural preservative, extends the ice cream’s shelf-life to six months—a significant innovation for the industry. The company is seeking a patent for this method.
The man behind the brand, Suhas B. Shetty, has gained recognition for his unique entrepreneurial approach. At just 33, Suhas has created direct employment for over 100 people and indirectly employed 350 more. He was lauded by Lakshminarayana as a role model for Indian youth, encouraging them to be job creators rather than job seekers.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Suhas’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in Iceberg’s solar-powered factories. JD Lakshminarayana called for more businesses to adopt such environmentally friendly practices. “Youth must be job givers rather than job seekers,” he reiterated, urging young entrepreneurs to embrace creativity and innovation in their ventures.
Lakshminarayana also stressed the importance of making organic products more accessible. He called for more testing labs and stricter certification processes to ensure the quality of organic products. Affordable testing would encourage more entrepreneurs to enter the organic market, benefiting both consumers and producers.
A Guilt-Free Ice Cream Experience
The Kondapur store, built with an investment of INR 70 lakh, offers 36 unique flavors. Suhas reassured customers that Iceberg’s organic ice creams won’t cause colds or throat irritation, unlike many traditional ice creams. These are health-focused treats, designed to leave consumers feeling satisfied without guilt.
The menu includes classic flavors like vanilla and butterscotch, alongside regional offerings like sitaphal (custard apple), chikoo, and guava. The Kondapur outlet also features Hyderabad-inspired sundaes, including Begum Ka Bazaar—a caramel and dried fruit delight—and Purana Pul Ke Miya Bhai, a jaggery almond ice cream topped with caramel fudge and chia seeds.
Iceberg’s Innovative Legacy
Iceberg is no stranger to innovation. The brand was among the first in India to introduce Keto Ice Cream, popular among health enthusiasts. Suhas’s entrepreneurial efforts took the brand to Shark Tank India Season 3, and Iceberg has secured orders to supply Keto ice creams to HRX, co-owned by actor Hrithik Roshan.
Lakshminarayana concluded by encouraging consumers to support brands like Iceberg that blend health, sustainability, and innovation. With its organic ingredients, innovative flavors, and commitment to sustainability, Organic Creamery represents the future of conscious consumerism in India.
