On World Sepsis Day, the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) – Hyderabad Chapter took proactive steps to highlight the importance of recognizing sepsis early. A public awareness walk was organized at the iconic Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge, bringing together doctors, nurses, medical students, and concerned citizens. The event, themed “Stop Sepsis – Save Lives,” was designed to educate the community about one of the world’s most critical yet overlooked medical emergencies.

Highlights the Urgency of Sepsis Awareness:
During the event, representatives including Dr. Manimala Rao, Dr. Shyam Sunder, Dr. Chandana, Dr. Venkataramana, Dr. Bhavani Prasad, and Dr. Shweta emphasized that sepsis can affect anyone at any age. It progresses rapidly if not treated promptly. They added that public awareness is the strongest defense against sepsis. Initiatives like this walk are essential for starting life-saving conversations.
Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine Educates on Signs, Risks, and Preventive Actions:
Participants carried placards with urgent messages such as “Recognize Sepsis Early” and “Act Fast, Save Lives.” They also distributed informational brochures in Telugu and English. The brochures outlined five critical facts and preventive measures. Key points encouraged people to recognize symptoms like fever, confusion, and rapid heartbeat. They stressed acting without delay and maintaining hygiene. Staying up to date with vaccinations was also highlighted.
Awareness Beyond the Walk on World Sepsis Day:
The Hyderabad Chapter is actively expanding its efforts with hospital-based education drives, social media campaigns, and regional awareness programs. These programs especially target rural and semi-urban communities. Through these initiatives, ISCCM helps people detect sepsis early, act quickly, and adopt preventive measures. These steps drastically reduce sepsis-related fatalities.
Although sepsis is preventable and treatable, awareness remains limited. The Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine in Hyderabad runs consistent educational campaigns and engages with the community. These efforts are making a significant impact. They remind everyone that timely knowledge and action can save lives.
