Indian Railways has joined hands with Indofast Energy to set up battery swapping stations across major railway stations in the Hyderabad and Secunderabad divisions. This initiative aims to boost electric vehicle (EV) adoption and build a sustainable, commuter-friendly infrastructure.
Massive Rollout Across 25 Stations

Under the first phase of this partnership, 80 battery swap stations have already been installed at 25 railway stations—56 under the Secunderabad division and 24 under Hyderabad division. Additionally, 40 more stations are planned for deployment over the next three months. This aligns with the Government of India’s clean mobility mission and improves daily commutes for EV users.
Fast, Efficient, and Sustainable
These battery swap stations are designed to offer quick and seamless battery replacement for electric two- and three-wheelers. Instead of waiting hours to charge, users can now swap their drained batteries for fully charged ones in minutes. This not only saves time but also reduces operational costs, especially for delivery services and daily commuters.
Indofast’s Vision: Over 10,000 Stations Nationwide
Indofast Energy, a joint venture between Indian Oil and SUN Mobility, is leading the operation and expansion. The company plans to install over 10,000 swap stations in 40+ cities within the next three years.
Why This Matters
- Boosts last-mile connectivity for EVs
- Reduces emissions and dependency on fossil fuels
- Speeds up the EV transition in public spaces
- Supports local businesses and delivery ecosystems
The Road Ahead
As the second phase of rollout begins, expectations are high. This initiative not only supports India’s climate goals but also provides practical solutions to everyday commuters. With Indian Railways’ vast network and Indofast Energy’s technology, Hyderabad is quickly becoming a model city for clean and scalable urban transport.
