Indian Railways on Wednesday (December 18) rejected ”false and misleading” claims that passengers would be allowed to travel for free during the Maha Kumbh Mela. The Ministry of Railways clarified that there are no provisions for free travel during the Maha Kumbh Mela or any other event.
The Ministry stated, ”Certain media reports have falsely claimed that passengers can travel free during the Maha Kumbh Mela. Indian Railways strongly denies these reports, as they are completely baseless and misleading.”
The Ministry also reminded passengers that traveling without a valid ticket is ”strictly prohibited” and considered a punishable offense. ”Traveling without a valid ticket is against Indian Railways’ rules and regulations and is subject to penalties. There are no provisions for free travel during the Maha Kumbh Mela or any other event,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry further assured that Indian Railways is committed to providing smooth travel during the Maha Kumbh. ”Adequate arrangements are being made, including the setup of special holding areas, additional ticket counters, and other necessary facilities to manage the expected influx of passengers, ” it added.
