HMDA plans to develop IDL lake
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has proposed lakefront development at Rangadhamuni Cheruvu in Kukatpally, also known as the IDL lake. The lake will focus on bund beautification, walkway development, landscaping, and seating arrangements. “We will also build food courts.” “The plan is to turn the lake into a family-friendly destination and increase foot traffic,” an HMDA official explained. The IDL lake is well-known among locals, with many people celebrating the Bathukamma festival at the nearby artificial pond.
Other projects that will be undertaken under the supervision of the GHMC include cleaning water hyacinth and waste material, biological wetland treatment, floating wetland and plantation, sewerage diversion, bund strengthening, and installing the dustbins.
“If necessary, we will also install aerators to increase oxygen levels in the lake,” a GHMC official said, adding that hoarding would be displayed to increase foot traffic and signage would be installed to discourage littering. Once the beautification work was completed, security arrangements would be put in place.
