Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his meeting with visiting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Friday, said that Berlin has opted to raise the annual quota of visas for skilled Indians from 20,000 to 90,000.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in India late Thursday for a three-day visit. At the 18th Asia-pacific Conference of German Businesses, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the strong partnership between India and Germany. He noted Germany’s trust in India’s Skilled workforce and announced an increase in visas for skilled Indians from 20,000 to 90,000 per year, which he believes will support Germany’s economic growth.
The two leaders subsequently engaged in bilateral discussion, addressing the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and the situation in west Asia, among other topics. India and Germany also signed agreements on mutual legal assistance and the handling of classified information, as well as a roadmap for green hydrogen initiatives.
Following the discussions eight agreements were signed, including a mutual legal assistance treaty on criminal matters, an agreement for the exchange and protection of classified information, the Indo-German green hydrogen roadmap, and a roadmap for innovation and technology. Additionally, declarations were made on employment and labor, research and development in advanced materials, green urban mobility, and skill development.
