In the wake of falling international prices, the prices of imported cooking oil have gone up by Rs 10. The Center has ordered the manufacturing companies to suggest that there should be a single MRP (Maximum Retail Price) across the country for a brand of oil.
Union Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said these things during a meeting with cooking oil manufacturing companies and associations on Wednesday. He said that since international rates have come down by 10 percent in the past week, it has been suggested that the benefits should be passed on to the consumers and the MRP should be reduced.
It has been explained that all the major manufacturing companies have promised to reduce the prices of all types of imported cooking oils such as palm oil, soybean, and sunflower oil within a week. Pandey said that the prices of other oils would also be reduced. According to the figures of July 6, the average retail price of palm oil (per liter) was Rs. 144.16, sunflower oil Rs. 185.77, Soyamin Oil Rs. 185.77, mustard oil Rs. 177.37, Pally Oil Rs. 187.93
On the other hand, he explained that he has also discussed with the manufacturing companies the complaints in the matter of weight. Companies are printing on the packets that when packed at 15 degrees Celsius, the quantity is 910 grams. However, due to the expansion of oil at those temperatures, the actual weight will be only 900 grams. Pandey explained that packing should be done at 30 degrees Celsius to prevent such things from happening.
