Cygni Energy, India’s largest independent energy storage company, has opened its new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Gigafactory in Hyderabad. This new facility marks a big step in India’s transition to clean and reliable power.

Located in E-Mobility Valley, Maheshwaram, the LEED-certified facility covers 160,000 sq. ft. and was built with an investment of ₹100 crore. It will produce up to 4.8 GWh of battery packs each year. These packs will serve both grid-scale energy storage projects and electric vehicles.

Smart Technology Meets Sustainability

This Gigafactory features fully automated assembly lines, making battery production faster and more efficient. It also includes an Advanced Engineering Lab and a Battery Management System (BMS) Lab.

Poultary

To improve quality and safety, Cygni has added:

  • Real-time data tracking using Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
  • Poka-Yoke (error-proofing) workstations
  • High-performance liquid-cooled modules using 314Ah cells

So far, Cygni has delivered 500 MWh of batteries across India. The company now holds a 1 GWh order pipeline, with demand rising from both EV makers and power producers.

Phase-I Highlights

Set up with a Phase I investment of ₹100 crores, the 160,000 sq. ft. Gigafactory sits on a 5-acre site and features a fully automated assembly line, a Battery Management System (BMS) Lab, and an Advanced Engineering Lab. It is capable of producing high-capacity battery packs for both electric vehicles and grid-scale storage systems.

“This Gigafactory marks a transformative step in sustainable energy and advanced manufacturing,” said Shri Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary to the Government of Telangana.

A Vision for Growth

During the launch event, Shri Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, praised the project. He said it would create new jobs and strengthen India’s clean energy future.

Venkat Rajaraman, CEO of Cygni, shared the company’s expansion plans. In Phase II, Cygni will scale up to 10.8 GWh, add three new assembly lines, and generate over 1,000 new jobs. These additions will help meet India’s rising need for energy storage.

Cygni is also investing in R&D. The company is working on:

  • Sodium-ion battery technology
  • Cell-to-Pack (CTP) and Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) design
  • Digital Twin systems for real-time monitoring
  • Machine Learning tools for predictive maintenance

They are partnering with IIT-Madras to drive these innovations forward.
