“Our institution has been an important site of study for students from around the globe for many years,” said Mark Hanshaw, Ph.D., Associate Provost. “With our addition of new graduate programs, we are able to serve the needs of a growing population of students, including many exclusively from India. The presence of our global students strengthens our campus and enrichens the educational experience we offer.”

Cumberland University welcomed the first cohort of students in its Master of Science in Information Technology (MSITM) degree during the summer semester that began in May. International service partner UniversityHUB, located in Hyderabad, is now assisting with recruitment efforts in the growing fields of Information Technology and Engineering Management.

“Nashville is one of the most rapidly growing business and technology centers in the United States,” said Hanshaw. “We are pleased to be able to help our students learn more about this emerging economic hub, as a part of their educational experience.”

Both Cumberland’s MSITM degree and Master of Science in Engineering Management (MSEM) are conducted using a hybrid model with classes held online and specific hybrid courses meeting on campus for an in-person residency each term. University leadership and program professors serving hands-on with students created these in-demand programs to focus on four primary outcomes anchored in global connectedness, communication, and critical thinking.

“Our driving force behind the creation of these programs has been rooted in listening to the needs of our students while focusing on the global presence and responsibility of our institution,” said Vice President of Enrollment Reggie Blair, who was present alongside Hanshaw at the announcement. “Our primary goal in offering these programs and others like them, is to ensure we are providing programs that are highly sought out and further advance career opportunities for our students, creating endless opportunities for the immediate future and beyond,” Blair said.

Cumberland University was founded in 1842 and holds a unique place in American History as one of the oldest private liberal arts universities in the southern United States. Now recognized as one of the fastest-growing universities in Tennessee, Cumberland is home to students from 39 states and 48 countries while also being recognized by the U.S. News and World Report as one of the Best Regional Universities in the South.

As part of their partnership with UniversityHub, Cumberland University will be hosting multiple “Spot Admissions” in India, inviting students and families to learn more about specific academic offerings and encouraging those in attendance to bring the necessary documents as they meet with Cumberland admissions representatives and leadership. Eligible students are encouraged to attend the first Spot Admissions event on July 19 as the

the first step in realizing how Cumberland University can prepare them for the classroom, career advancement, and beyond.
