The CII Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has announced a key leadership transition effective April 1, 2026. Mr C. Shekar Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of CSR Estates Ltd., will take over as National Chairman. He succeeds Mr B Thiagarajan, whose two-year tenure concludes successfully. At the same time, Mr. A. R. Unnikrishnan, Managing Director – Glass Business at Saint-Gobain India Pvt Ltd., will assume charge as National Vice-Chairman.
Driving the Next Phase of Green Growth

Since its establishment in 2001, IGBC has become India’s leading certification body for sustainable buildings. Today, IGBC has 18,850+ registered projects covering 15.52 billion sq. ft. across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Moreover, the council has developed 33 Green and Net Zero rating systems, aligned with global sustainability standards.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. C Shekar Reddy said sustainability must move from a niche concept to a core principle in urban development. He added that IGBC will focus on green retrofits, MSME-friendly certifications, and technology-driven design solutions. Therefore, the council aims to accelerate India’s low-carbon growth journey.
Strengthening Industry Collaboration
Mr. A. R. Unnikrishnan highlighted the importance of sustainable materials and energy-efficient technologies. He noted that the built environment plays a key role in climate action. As a result, IGBC will work closely with policymakers and industry leaders to promote climate-resilient development.
Outgoing Chairman Mr. B Thiagarajan appreciated the council’s progress during his tenure and expressed confidence in the new leadership.
