Lockheed Martin marked a major milestone today with the delivery of the 250th C-130J Super Hercules empennage manufactured in Hyderabad. The tail assembly was produced at Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Limited (TLMAL), the long-standing joint venture between Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Lockheed Martin.
TLMAL, established in 2010, builds the complete tail section of the C-130J. This includes the horizontal and vertical stabilizers that are essential for the aircraft’s stability and control. After production, the empennage is shipped to the United States for final integration at Lockheed Martin’s Marietta, Georgia facility.
Speaking on the achievement, Rod McLean, Vice President, Air Mobility & Maritime Missions, said the 250th delivery highlights the strong partnership between Lockheed Martin and India. He stated, “The quality and precision from our Hyderabad team directly support C-130J fleets in 23 nations. It is a product built to deliver and built to last.”
The empennage program is a key part of Lockheed Martin’s global supply chain. The Hyderabad facility plays a major role in advanced manufacturing, workforce development, and high-precision aerospace production. This collaboration also advances India’s Make in India vision by expanding local defence and aerospace capabilities.
The delivery represents a significant milestone in India–US industry cooperation and strengthens both nations’ commitment to innovation and long-term security collaboration.
McLean added, “Our teamwork and consistency have set a global standard. The world benefits from what we build together.”
About the C-130J-30
The C-130J-30 offers unmatched performance, interoperability, and fuel efficiency. Since India inducted its first C-130J-30 in 2011, the Indian Air Force has executed several high-altitude, special-operations, and humanitarian missions with the aircraft.
Globally, more than 560 C-130J aircraft operate across 23 nations, logging over 3 million flight hours in missions that include search and rescue, peacekeeping, combat operations, maritime patrol, and disaster relief.
