Genome Valley Excellence Award 2025

One of the major highlights of BioAsia 2025 was the conferment of the Genome Valley Excellence Award 2025 to Dr. Patrick Tan, a renowned cancer researcher. Dr. Tan is the Executive Director of PRECISE, Singapore, Senior Vice Dean (Research) at Duke-NUS Medical College, and Chief Scientific Officer at the Genome Institute of Singapore. His groundbreaking work in precision medicine and genomic research has positioned him as a leading innovator in the fight against cancer.

Major Investment Announcements at BioAsia 2025

The Telangana Government welcomed significant investments from major global corporations, reinforcing the state’s position as a preferred destination for life sciences and biotech industries. Some of the key announcements included:

  • MSD, USA, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies, officially entered the Telangana ecosystem. The state’s unmatched technological and life sciences capabilities are expected to accelerate MSD’s growth in India.
  • AGILISIUM, a company headquartered in Los Angeles, USA, launched its new office at RMZ Spire, Hyderabad, and established a Life Sciences Innovation & Talent Development Lab.
  • ALS, a global leader in testing, inspection, certification, and verification solutions, announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art Bio Pharma cGMP testing lab in Genome Valley.
  • MEISHI PHARMA – A Lotus Company is setting up its second R&D center in Hyderabad under its newly established Indian subsidiary, MEISHI Pharma Services Pvt Ltd.

Pharma MOUs Signed for Green Pharma City

Green Pharma City, Telangana’s flagship initiative, witnessed a wave of new investments as 11 more pharmaceutical companies signed MOUs with the government. The companies include:

  • Granules India, Orbicular, Aizant, Biological E, Virchow, Virupaksha, Jubilant, Vimta, Aragen, Bharat Biotech, and Sai Life Sciences.
  • These agreements bring in an additional ₹5,445 crore in investments and are expected to create 9,800 new jobs.
  • With these commitments, the total investment in Green Pharma City now stands at ₹11,100 crore, with employment opportunities exceeding 22,300.

Strategic Partnerships Driving Growth

Telangana Government announced several strategic collaborations aimed at advancing the life sciences ecosystem:

  • Letter of Intent with the University of Queensland to collaborate on cutting-edge research, digital healthcare, and AI-driven innovations.
  • Indian Digital Health Activator, an initiative by the World Economic Forum (WEF), will make Telangana the first hub under its Activator framework to drive a robust digital health ecosystem.
  • Innovative Pharmaceutical Services Organization (IPSO), bringing together 11 leading Contract Research & Development Organizations (CRDMOs), will foster innovation, knowledge sharing, and a favorable regulatory environment.
  • I Health Innovation Manchester collaboration with T-Hub to drive innovation in healthcare, MedTech, diagnostics, and digital health solutions for improved patient outcomes.

Government’s Vision for Telangana’s Life Sciences Sector

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana, Mr. A Revanth Reddy, emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming Hyderabad into a global leader in life sciences. He highlighted several initiatives, including:

  • Development of 10 Pharma Villages between Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Regional Ring Road (RRR), expected to generate over 5 lakh jobs.
  • Advancing Green Pharma City as a key component of Telangana’s Future City Project.
  • Launching a new Life Sciences Policy to drive innovation in cell and gene therapy, genomics, biologics, precision medicine, peptides, and advanced R&D.
  • Strengthening Telangana’s infrastructure, with a 360 KM Regional Ring Road (RRR) and a network of manufacturing hubs for pharma, EVs, data centers, green energy, agri-processing, and more.
