A one-of-a-kind travelogue, “Around the World in Magnets – Sri Lanka”, written by Hyderabad-based authors Dr Anthony Vipin Das and Ms Vidushi Duggal, was launched at a special ceremony hosted at the Sri Lankan High Commission in New Delhi.
The book is the first in a national series that presents travel stories through a nostalgic and visually rich medium—souvenir magnets. Each magnet tells a story, captures a moment, and reflects a memory from Sri Lanka, making this book a fresh and intimate way to rediscover the island nation.
Formal Launch at the Sri Lankan High Commission
The book was officially released by H.E. Ms Mahishini Colonne, Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India. Diplomats, authors, cultural leaders, and media representatives attended the launch, making it a meaningful celebration of Sri Lanka’s culture and resilience.
A curated display of the magnets featured in the book served as a visual highlight of the evening.
How the Idea Originated
Hyderabad authors Dr Anthony Vipin Das and Vidushi Duggal have explored souvenir magnets collected from around the world.
Their book explains why travel magnets hold such emotional value and how they preserve memories of journeys.
This Sri Lanka edition showcases a selection of striking magnets collected from across the island, celebrating the country’s landscapes, heritage, food, and culture.
A Literary Discussion Enriches the Evening
To mark the launch, a panel discussion was held, moderated by Mr Sanjoy Roy, Founder of the Jaipur Literature Festival.
The panel also included:
- Prof. Mahalakshmi Ramakrishnan, Centre for Historical Studies, JNU
- Ambassador (Retd.) Gitesh Sharma
Their insights added historical, cultural, and literary depth to the event.
A Message of Strength and Solidarity
During her address, High Commissioner H.E. Ms Mahishini Colonne spoke about the severe impact of Cyclone Ditwah, which caused extensive damage across Sri Lanka.
She expressed gratitude for India’s swift humanitarian support and encouraged travellers to continue visiting Sri Lanka.
“Tourism sustains families and communities. Your presence directly supports our recovery,” she said. “At a time when we rebuild, your support means more than ever.”
All proceeds from the book launch were donated to the Cyclone Relief Fund established by the Sri Lanka High Commission.
India and Sri Lanka: A Deep Travel Connection
The High Commissioner noted that Indian tourists remain one of the largest visitor groups to Sri Lanka, drawn by its pristine beaches, rich heritage, shared spiritual roots, and warm hospitality.
“Around the World in Magnets – Sri Lanka” captures these experiences through curated visuals and personal stories, offering readers a warm and creative way to explore the island.
