The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) under CII celebrated a historic milestone with the inauguration of the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority’s (APCRDA) new Project Office in Amaravati. The event was graced by Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, along with IGBC officials including Mr. C Shekar Reddy, National Vice-Chairman, and Mr. Vijay Sai Meka, Chairman, IGBC Amaravati Chapter.
First Government Building to Achieve IGBC Net Zero Certification
This new APCRDA Project Office is India’s first government building to earn IGBC Net Zero Energy Rating – Design Stage. The 22,527 sq.m office features energy-efficient lighting, high-performance HVAC systems, and a 540 kWp rooftop solar PV system. Its Energy Performance Index (EPI) of 0.85 surpasses the ECBC 2017 baseline by 15%, emphasizing sustainable design and renewable energy use.
Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu said, “This IGBC-certified project symbolizes Andhra Pradesh’s dedication to sustainable urban development. Amaravati is becoming a model smart, resilient, and environmentally responsible city.”
Visionary Leadership and Technical Excellence
The project’s success is credited to Sri K. Kanna Babu, I.A.S., Commissioner, APCRDA, and Sri A. Bhargav Teja, I.A.S., Additional Commissioner, who integrated sustainability in all phases. Sandeep Dixit, Chief Architect & Design Coordinator, ensured the building met world-class green building standards.
Mr. C Shekar Reddy added, “This certification demonstrates Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to promoting energy-efficient government infrastructure. The collaborative efforts of APCRDA and IGBC set a benchmark for other cities.”
Setting a Benchmark for Green Infrastructure
The inauguration reinforces Amaravati’s position as a leader in India’s Net Zero and green infrastructure movement. The project serves as an example for cities nationwide aiming to implement climate-conscious urban planning.
