Hitler’s watch is worth Rs. 8.7 crore at a disputed US auction:
A wristwatch once owned by Nazi leader Adolf Hitler was sold at an auction house in the US for the absurd price of $1.1 million, despite protests from the Jewish community (over Rs 8.71 crore).
Alexander Historical Auctions of Chesapeake City, Maryland, held the sale. The watch’s value was estimated by the auctioneers to be between $2 and $4 million, describing it as a “World War II relic of historic proportions.”
Jewish officials opposed the contentious sale, claiming that the watch, which was inscribed with Hitler’s initials AH, had little to no historical significance and should not have been put up for auction.
The sale was defended by the auction house and its president, Bill Panagopulos. He claimed that a Jew from Europe purchased Hitler’s watch.
A Nazi swastika may be seen on the watch in addition to Hitler’s initials. In May 1945, a french soldier took the watch as loot from the enemy.
