Mass Singing of National Anthem:

At 11.30 a.m. on August 16, 2022, the citizens of Hyderabad accomplished an incredible feat by singing the National Anthem in unison across the city.

The state government had asked citizens across the state to stand at exactly 11.30 a.m. and sing the National Anthem as part of the two-week Swatantra Bharata Vajrotsavalu programme. The government had announced that at 11.30 a.m., traffic lights would turn red and Metro trains would stop. To participate in the event, large crowds gathered at several major city intersections.

At several city intersections, citizens sang the Anthem in chorus. At 11.30 a.m., a large crowd gathered at the Virinchi Hospitals junction on Banjara Hills Road No. 1 and sang the Anthem together. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao performed the anthem near Abids GPO Circle at Jawaharlal Nehru’s statue.

Many places reported traffic congestion as the traffic lights turned red. According to a traffic police officer at the Maitrivanam junction, the disruption was brief, and normal traffic movement resumed after about 10 minutes. He went on to say that not everyone was aware of the initiative, as only a few people got out of their cars to sing the National Anthem. Following the event, many citizens who had gathered at the intersections just for the occasion were seen taking pictures and selfies.
