The Income Tax Department has officially extended the ITR filing deadline for FY 2024-25 (AY 2025-26) from July 31, 2025 to September 15, 2025. The move provides relief to individual taxpayers and non-audit cases facing challenges with filing on time.
Who Gets the Extension?
- Applicable to individuals and non-audit taxpayers.
- Not applicable to those required to file tax audit reports.
- Filing beyond September 15 will attract late fees and interest under Sections 234A and 234F of the Income Tax Act.
- A belated return can still be filed until December 31, 2025, but with penalties.
